Impact Provo: Evangelistic Campaign and VBS

In the months of July and August, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in the Turks and Caicos Islands along with the Children and Adolescent and Health Departments sought to impact the island of Providenciales. The overall program was coordinated by Almartha Thomas, ADRA and Community Services Director. For the past three years she has led her team to impact different countries as well as islands within the Turks and Caicos.

From July 20 through to August 3, 2019, there was an evangelistic campaign that was held at the Bethany Seventh-day Adventist Church with lay evangelist Jermaine Reid and his translator Wilnide Julmiste. A total of six individuals were baptized and entered a committed relationship with Christ because of this effort.

“The experience was indeed marvelous. The hospitality, the love and warmth I felt from the brethren was a true demonstration of what God expects of His saints. We felt the outpouring of the Holy Spirit each night. I must say thanks to team ADRA for once again giving my family the opportunity to be of service in the Master’s vineyard. We can truly say that Dock yard and Bethany SDA will never be the same again. The experience has drawn me closer to my Maker,” said Evangelist Reid.

The Health Ministries Department also played a role in the evangelistic campaign by offering health screenings and health tips for those in attendance.

The Dock Yard area of Kew Town is known as a volatile area on the island of Providenciales and the church and its volunteers led by ADRA sought to be a light to the children in the community. Vacation Bible School (VBS) was held at the Bethany Church in Dock Yard, Kew Town and over 180 children attended. Numerous volunteers dedicated their time in an effort to positively impact the children in the community of Kew Town, especially Dock Yard.

The Children and Adolescent Ministries Director Wilnide Julmiste commenting on the VBS said,  “There is nothing more beautiful than to see the children’s merry faces which were an outward expression of their enjoyment of the program.  One of the many positive things that intrigued me the most, is that the children and young people were able to spiritually connect with God through Bible stories, memory verses, action figures and most definitely through prayer. We praise God for his work and we will continue to place the children and adolescents in God’s hand.”

ADRA was also engaged in a community project in the community of Blue Hills where the group helped an elderly lady.
