Our Sabbath Schools are not what the Lord would have them be, for there is altogether too much dependence placed on form and machinery while the life giving power of God is not manifested for the conversion of soul, for whom Christ died. This order of things must be changed if our Sabbath Schools are to meet the purpose for which they exist.” (Counsels to Teachers… Pg.41)
The Sabbath School exists not only to nurture the spiritual growth in its members and prospective members, but also to train those members to minister to others in the Fellowship, Outreach, Mission, and Study of the Word. Its purpose is Evangelistic, not ritualistic.
There is much to be done if our members are to realize their obligation and act their part in realizing this lofty god given goal. The Sabbath School Department of the Turks and Caicos Islands Conference is it has a solemn responsibility to guide and motivate the local Sabbath schools to do its best to realize the purpose for which it exists. As such for the year 2012 the Department will give keen attention to the following areas:-
- Emphasize the role of Religious Education on Revival and Reformation (Youth and Adults)
- Emphasize the role of Early Christian Education on character building (Children’s Department)
- Implement the Sabbath School Action Unit Plan as the setting for a program of nurture and outreach in all our churches
- Demonstrate new approaches to understanding and teaching the Bible
- Demonstrate model Sabbath School Features, Programs relevant for Nurturing, Evangelism, and Mission
- Provide training and resources for Sabbath School Officers
