EDUCATION

Education

Ellen White reminds us in the book Education, page 13: “True education means more than the pursual of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man.It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual powers. It prepares the student for the joy of service in this world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.”

This sums up in a few sentences the reason why Seventh-day Adventist schools exist. Yes, we provide a curriculum that offers students the opportunity to prepare for each educational level culminating either at college and/or with a career. But our schools must provide more than that. At the end of the day, our schools must be able to answer the question “where is the flock that I’ve entrusted to you?” in the affirmative. Sis. White confirms this further when she states “true education does not ignore the value of scientific knowledge or literary acquirements; but above information it values power; above power, goodness; above intellectual acquirements, character. The world does not so much need men of great intellect as of noble character. It needs men in whom ability is controlled by steadfast principle” (Education, page 225).

The Education Department of the Turks and Caicos Islands Conference of Seventh- day Adventists seeks to maintain a liaison between Maranatha High School, church schools like Faith Preparatory School, other feeder schools, and the church constituency, providing programs to emphasize the value and importance of Adventist education. In addition, the Department will provide leadership for the professional growth opportunities of teachers, and supervision for all S.D.A. schools in accordance with the educational policies of the Conference, the Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission, and the Inter-American Division of Seventh-day Adventists.
